Our Society is Being Crushed Under it's Own Weight
Simpson, Blake, Jackson? – Society is on trial.
I believe what we are seeing, those of us that are paying attention anyway; is the further slow decline of our society.
After all it’s happened to every great society on Earth and they all thought they were as great as we do.
No, I’m not just speaking of America, however it is America that is leading the slide with our history of non-tradition, fast paced me, me, me morality.
Our moral code along with our personal freedoms have been evaporating so slowly and with what seems at the time to be reasonable justification that we not only haven’t noticed them changing but in most cases have willingly agreed to give them up.
There are many facets to our society and the freedoms we used to enjoy but no longer have. I can start listing for you that which I feel I have lost but, the list would never end and I would never stop typing. However, the fact is, most of what I am speaking of can be summed up in one word. Responsibility.
Responsibility is that thing, that moral code that personally causes individuals to do the right thing and to make sure the right things are happening around them. As a society the right thing means not only judging social behavior according to an accepted standard of morality but also more importantly consistently applying it across all segments of society without exception.
Politicians are no longer held accountable for their campaign promises, their stand on the issues, their mistakes, their lies, their actions or even their Party loyalty.
Corporate leaders are no longer held accountable for their promises, their leadership, and their loyalty to their employees or even their personal greed.
Clergy are no longer held accountable for the protection of their flock, for the little children for their own perversions.
Judges are no longer held accountable for their promise to interpret rather than create the law, their consistency in meting out justice and their own personal perversions and habits of crucifying the weak and allowing to let slide those rich and powerful wrong doers that they so badly want to be like.
Attorneys are no longer held accountable for their actions in and out of the courtroom. They no longer worry about the law that they have embraced, but rather adhere to the philosophy that the end justifies the means as long as the end means more gold coins in their pockets.
Public Servants in the form of local government officials, peace officers and firemen are no longer held accountable for their own conduct or personal sense of morality when not “on the job”. They are no longer required to tell the truth, be honest or compassionate or even care about those they serve.
Teachers are no longer held accountable for their personal behavior, moral attitude or sense of self in the classrooms, they are no longer held accountable for their student’s progress or even whether they impart knowledge to anyone at all. In fact teachers are no longer held accountable for their own education and knowledge. Many teachers have no idea what they are teaching until the night before when they themselves read the material they assigned. Teachers are no longer proud of their vocation but rather are in it for the easy money and the money they get for doing nothing isn’t enough, they all want more and they do not want to have to prove themselves through performance on the job.
Physicians and nurses are no longer held accountable for healing, for treating the ill for following a strict medical discipline regarding their Hippocratic oaths but instead feel that they shouldn’t be bothered by sick people when they are reaching into their patient’s pockets to retrieve every last penny they have. If a medical professional has to choose between treating the sick and playing golf, they play golf.
Professional athletes and entertainers are no longer held accountable for their actions as role models and good moral behavior in front of their fans. They no longer care about who they portray themselves to be or the words that come out of their mouths. They all only care about their personal wealth and how they look in the mirror.
Parents are no longer held accountable for their children’s actions or their children’s performance in and out of school. They are no longer held accountable for teaching discipline and good moral conduct or even modeling those traits.
Children are no longer held responsible for anything.
Society as a whole does not have the courage to stand up and say “ENOUGH”!
We as a society are so politically correct, so worried about everyone’s civil rights, so concerned about how WE will look to the rest of our peers and the world that we simply look at the ground as we go through life afraid to make eye contact with anyone for fear that we may be singled out or called upon to do something.
When bad people do bad things we ignore it. When we’re asked to stand up and be counted, we remain seated. When simply required to remember the past and what has happened to us we forget as quickly as it takes us to bury our dead.
