Idle Thoughts

Daily musings and demented, psychotic ponderings

I like music a lot, I played guitar most of my life and even was in a band once. I could spend hours playing music by myself or entertaining others. I was good, maybe even pretty good, but never REALLY good. I have 3 Fender Guitars that now have an inch of dust on them. I haven't touched them since March 25, 2001 and I never will again.

Only the Cold

Making your way around in this dark world is made more difficult by the ever growing cold. Cold that has become completely void of any warmth at all for weeks now.

Since the Sun went out there was residual warmth stored in lakes, rocks, buildings, pavement and the like. But now several weeks after, there is no more storage. It has all been depleted and now there is only cold and fear.

The dark warriors don’t seem to mind though. They were born into this world or mutated or created somehow after the darkening.

No one really knows or at least no one knows anyone that knows. Since the darkening the dark warriors are not the only ones that are to be feared. Hu-mans also wonder the land looking for food, water, clothing or just revenge. They kill without mercy or remorse. They figure they are all going to die anyway and there must truly be no God or this couldn’t have happened. So in their minds what they do will have no consequence unless they screw with the wrong person.

Because of this, no one gets too close to any one else. So any knowledge that may exist in this new world is being archived amongst individuals and not shared.

Information and communication is all but non-existent now. That is very difficult when just last month you could walk to a terminal log onto the net and get anything you desired.

Now it’s gone, all of it!

The machines, cars, trucks, telephones, computers everything that once had artificial life lives no more.

When the Sun went out there was a moment just before, when it flared. This last Solar flare was unlike any before it. It sent such a wave of heat and radiation through the atmosphere that it literally cooked anything with a transistor, diode, battery, circuit board, fuse and wires.

Most of the automobiles and other machines that ran on fuel have all been burned for their life giving warmth. Now all that remains is burnt out shells, skeletons of a once thriving technology.

So now you stumble through this dark world, fearful of all manner of things trying not to shiver too loud so you won’t give yourself away.

The method that you move by is very simple, you move quietly for an hour or so then you find a dark place to sit and wait and listen. After an hour or so you move again. This virtually never ends. Since there is no more day there is no need for time. The hours and minutes have been lost and the only thing that denotes the passing of time is the rising and falling of the moon. III
