OUR LAWMAKERS AT WORK!
More and more I am convinced that most if not ALL politicians are lazy stupid ass’s that don’t work most of the time however I’m sure they never miss a meal or junket on the taxpayers dime.
However, in order to prove that they do some work and should get re-elected they write these stupid laws without fully knowing what they’re doing or how the law will affect anyone.
Okay, what is my bitch you ask? Smog testing in California! What is smog testing for?
Well you say, it’s to ensure that the smog equipment on your vehicle is working properly so you do not produce polluting emissions into the atmosphere.
Okay, well what if your vehicle doesn’t HAVE smog equipment on it?
Ohhh no, you say, you cannot have that. They do not make vehicles without smog equipment, do they?
Hmmm. Why not? Are the States and Feds in cahoots with manufactures to maybe get a little kickback on the sales of this stuff? They certainly make sales tax revenue from the sales of this stuff.
Did you know that you can put aftermarket high performance parts on your vehicle that will do away with the smog equipment and your vehicle will not produce pollution?
No way. You say. How is that possible? Why wouldn’t vehicles just come that way?
Good point! That’s what I’m getting at! Why wouldn’t they?
Case in point:
I have an 87 Jeep Wrangler with a standard 258ci motor. I kept having problems with it overheating and vacuum hose leaks and timing problems and yes passing smog checks in order to get it registered. So I tore all the smog crap and vacuum hoses and the old carburetor off of it and threw it all in the dumpster.
I put a MOPAR multiport fuel injection system on it and now it runs GREAT, doesn’t overheat and best of all it produces no discernable smog!
Wait just a minute, you say; how can your 21 year old jeep produce less smog without all that expensive smog equipment then it did with it?
Uh-huh, exactly! How can it?
Okay so the world is a happy place once again, right? Wrong!
Because of the stupid ass politicians that write these dumbass laws, part of the smog check consists of a physical inspection of your vehicle to ensure you have all the original smog equipment and that you have not modified it in any way. It doesn’t really matter if your vehicle passes the smog test at this point. If you do such a thing to your vehicle, it must be approved by the State and you must have a decal on your vehicle that says it is okay. Wait! You say, what the hell does a decal have to do with pollution? Nothing, not a damn thing! Decals are sticky little bastards that can and do come off after years of dirt and water and mud because that is what decals do. They come off!
However you cannot get your vehicle smog tested without that goddamn little sticker!
It does not matter that the vehicle produces NO pollution. Nor does it matter that the vehicle does not have smog equipment on it. No indeed it doesn’t matter one damn little bit, because all that matters NOW is that goddamn little decal!! It would seem that the entire EPA and the California Air Resources Board don’t really give a damn about clean air. They do not really care about pollution because clean air doesn’t pay them shit. Without pollution they would all be out of work. How can they tax clean air?
They can’t! But they can tax smog equipment and smog testing stations and smog tests and they do get their share of the smog test fees. But if you do away with the smog test equipment and your vehicle stops polluting the air then there is no need for smog tests and therefore no need for smog testing stations.
OMG you say. What are the stupid ass politicians going to do? How then are they going to get any money?
DECALS! That’s how. They are going to sell and tax those little fucking DECALS! And they are going to make sure you have them in order to stop polluting the fucking planet!
Except of course when they come off and pollute the environment, but that’s okay they already have litter laws they can screw you with!
